Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
Here's my completed custom Eomer on his horse Firefoot.
These are but a few of the reference pics I've used-
http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/...a009_9_yuk.jpg
http://www.tuckborough.net/images/firefoot.jpg
http://www.frfantasy.de/tradingcards/0P33.jpg
Like I said Eomer is a kit-bashed compilation of three figures - TTT Eomer, ROTK Eomer & Theodred -
- Head from Retro Wave 1 Eomer
- Torso (neck included), Pauldrons & Shoulders from Ceremonial Eomer
- Repainted Arms from Theodred - chainmail has been cut and wrapped tighter against arms
- Chainmail skirt from Retro Wave 1 Eomer - trimmed to suit saddle & fabric painted green
- Spare Ceremonial Eomer sheath belt system used as new waist belt
- Repainted Legs from Theodred
- ROTK Eomer sheath cut in half, sanded down to be thinnher and reglued together
Firefoot is based on a repainted Arod horse, saddle and all. The paint job came out a little darker than I had anticipated but I like my ash to be darker (get it, firefoot.. ). The headpeice is a shaved down Arod headpiece. A cheap plastic ring serves as the top of the headpiece with three layes of cardboard forming the the layers look. Thin metal wire was used to give the spiral detailing look, with a spare Eomer helm providing the golden horse (I personally think the horse on the headpiece looks better than the thin gold metal of the movie firefoot headpiece). The belt round circle buckle is a anotehr cheap toy ring chosen for it's design and repainted.
The base is my usual wood with rock and dust glued atop creation.
Once I make Theoden a base I'll post picture of the two riding side by side Here's the first round of pictures..

Re: Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
Finally made that follow-up to theoden! Looks great man! I thought you were going to try to customize theodred's helmet into eomer's? How did that go? You could always try building one from scratch. Again, Great Custom!

Thanks jimmiroquai!
Eomer's helm isn't very different to Theodred's in size, so the cost/reward of customising Theodred's helm into Eomer's is relatively low. I'm considering it, but I first have to find the material that will be the white horse hairs on Theodred's helm before I attempt anything.
Also Eomer's helm fits nicely on the head, but Theodred's is a tighter and mismatched squeeze - making it fit right would entail carving some of Eomer's hair and thus making his head always necessating a helm. I think basically the Eomer film helmet desgin is an awkward that looks relative large - the toy just making this weird design even more apparent.
And ofcourse my scratchbuilt abilities pale in comparison to your own & Spider-Man, so at the moment no helm for me At the moment I'm happy for him to be helmless - when i get more free time I'll take some pics of what the different helms look like on him.

Re: Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
Man that Firefood horse looks great, the paint job it very good and the pieces you gave him like the piece of helm from Eomer is very nice.
Great Custom!
One thing please repaint Eomer's head 'cause the TB version wasn't that great in detail.
Thumbs up!
TB if you read this makes some more horses!!!!!!

Re: Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
Great custom Annatar! I'm really starting to regret not getting more H&R sets. I only have Sharku on warg and MoS on steed... The detailing on Firefoot's headpiece is simply beautiful. No one would have guessed the headpiece was made from cardboard. Also the extra mods you did to Eomer are worth every bit of effort. He looks so much more in proportion.

You just have to get your hands on some sculpey, my friend. Believe me, it will open up whole new worlds of possibilities!! My Gondorian helm and the latest Numenorean helm wouldn't have been possible if not for sculpey. If you really really can't get it in Australia, I could get some and ship them to you at cost+shipping. Shipping from Singapore should be cheaper than shipping from the states i think. LMK and i'll be glad to help.

I would recommend removing his hair completely and remodelling it from sculpey to make it Theodred-helmet-friendly but again, lack of sculpey rears it's ugly head (no pun intended )! I've just had a go with this, removing PF aragorn's hair and resculpting it to be more helmet friendly and it's not as difficult as I thought. Check our A-P's threads on this. Just holler if you need any help on this!
By the way, great photographs in case you thought it was being taken for granted. Creating great customs is just half the story, the larger half no doubt, but taking good photos of your customs for others to admire and scrutinize completes the work!

Re: Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
this guy is awesome! terrific job on the headpiece. this custom is fantastic! i think you should just give him Eomer's helm. i think it looks better than having no helm.

Re: Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
Thanks Mordor Uruk! I wouldn't dare try repainted Eomer's face at the moment becuase skin tones aren't one of my strong suits - plus I actually like the TT Eomer head - it looks a lot more like Kark Urban than the ROTK head - even if he is a little sunburnt and tanned
Any praise coming from a scartch-master like you Spider-Man is highly generous and worthwhile... thanks! I've actually got my hands on some sculpey, and working my way around it, figuring it out. At the moment I'm having a hard enoough time trying to get undetailed crowns done - super detailed helms and hair redo's aren't anywhere in sight considering my low confidence and skill level heheh. I'll just have to read through AP's threads again and again for the moment And much much thanks for the comments regarding the photography - I couldn't agree with more on the importance of excellent photos to show the detail and custom in true light, but you're no stranger to that philosophy
Thanks OrcKiller123! - For the moment when Eomer's on my shelf I'll most likely just put his helm on, yeh - the other option is to have it in my custom box and I guess that's a waste.
Much thanks Pippin Glad to know someone else out there isn't too fond of the Eomer helm either.
Thanks Ixzac - Theodred's repainted armor is quite simple. A black undercoat followed by a silver coat. You can blackwash the silver again if you want to give it a more tarnished and dirty look. The red of Eomer's armor is actually a combination of Napthol Crimson, Warm Red, Dark Umber and Burgundy. It's not a 100% exact but it's as close as I could come. A blackwash over the red helps to give it the weathered look too. Firefoot's color is a combination of differing grey combinations applied with cotton balls.

Re: Custom Eomer on Custom Firefoot steed
Wonderful custom, Annatar!
As I have written in the Furnace already I really like this one a lot. He looks as if he rode right out of the movie. This version of Eomer looks just great, awesome job on the kit-bashing. The horses armor just looks perfect and so does its paintjob!
Very vivid custom, the only thing I'd love to see is him hauling a spear as he did in the movie.

Yeah, who doesn't...
I think I have found an cheap alternative for them though. Over here they have these toy horses called "Grand Champion" by Revell which are in scale with the Toybiz figures. They have all kinds of different horses. They are made for little girls with fancy manes and all kinds of stupid accessoires but with a few modifications they serve the purpose! I'll post some customs after I got them.
