Dallas Comic Con Review
This year, the Dallas Comic Con was May 14-15 at the Plano Convention Centre. It was all Star Wars, all weekend, to celebrate the opening of “Revenge of the Sith”.
I was unable to attend on Saturday, but by all accounts attendance surpassed everybody’s expectations. The vendors were still reeling on Sunday from the crowds!
I was the first one in the exhibit room, and a quick runaround scored all three things I was specifically looking for - 12” Barris Offee, 12” Shaak Ti and Unleashed Aurra Sing. With a substantially lighter pocketbook, I made my way to the autograph room with two targets in mind. Temeura Morrison (Jango Fett/Commander Cody) was quiet and very mysterious, wearing his sunglasses inside – a man with style! Daniel Logan (little Boba Fett - who certainly has grown up!) was a different story. He spoke freely with his beautiful New Zealand accent and was very friendly and forthcoming, talking at length with everybody he met. He wrote, “Heather - you’re beautiful! XOXO - Daniel Logan” on my picture. What a charmer!
I then sat in on the Q&A with Ray Park (Darth Maul). He talked about his intense passion for the martial arts and even did a couple of demonstrations. He began work as strictly a fight double, and was considering becoming a licensed stuntman when Rick McCallum called him for the part of Darth Maul. He said his makeup took two hours and the horns and teeth took another. A little girl asked why Darth Maul had horns and he told her it was because his teeth were so bad, they grew right up out of his head! I learned that he was the fight double for four characters in “Mortal Kombat” and was nearly killed doing a very basic stunt - and he didn’t even realize it at the time. He did a wonderful impression of the crew when the near-miss happened (“white as ghosts”, he said, making a hilarious face). He talked about how much he enjoyed playing Toad in “X-Men” (but how he hated the painful eye covers he had to wear!) He was wonderfully endearing in a very British sort of way. I can definitely see why he’s a convention favorite (and one of Choopie’s faves!)
Other guests included Matthew Wood (General Grievous), Amy Allen (Aayla Secura), David Prowse (Darth Vader) and Jerome Blake (various roles).
All in all, the most fun I’ve had at a show since I met John Noble last July! To learn more about Ben’s shows, check out www.dallascomiccon.com. Here are some pictures from my great day:

Re: Dallas Comic Con Review
Awesome girl!! Sounds like you had a great time. Ray Park is a charming fellow, isn't he? I could sit and listen to him talk for hours with that accent of his.
Did you get any trading cards at the show? What else did you pick up, or was what you had listed the sum of it? Sounds like the popularity of the show is increasing.

Re: Dallas Comic Con Review
There was a girl at the Q & A all mesmerized by Ray Park's voice. She kept asking him to say "naughty" (which is what he called Darth Maul in the behind-the-scenes stuff). I never heard so much giggling...
Daniel Logan has a great voice too - he's gonna be a real lady killer, I can tell.
Believe it or not, I didn't buy any trading cards. The vendor I usually hit was wiped out from Saturday and I was too...um...broke ( ) from the other stuff anyway.

Re: Dallas Comic Con Review
It sounds like you had a blast there. Those pics you posted were cool too, Boba certainly has grown up. It would be awesome to get to speak with the people you listed, its too bad nothing like that hits Omaha.

Cool pictures. yeah, i'll second wannabe elf, boba really has grown up. i had no idea who he was when i first looked at the picture. Jango looks cool as ever and Ray Parks exudes friendliness. And most importantly, you look like you had a great time.

Re: Dallas Comic Con Review
I had a fabulous time, and it's so much better when I can share with the folks on here.
I'm guessing Daniel Logan is 15 or 16 now. I started to tell him to call me in 10 years.

Re: Dallas Comic Con Review
Glad to hear you had a good time Shieldmaiden.
Temeura's always struck me as a bit of an indifferent hard-man, especially with the tough guy roles he tends to play. I've no doubt he's probably quite nice, but he's Jake the Muss for crying out loud! (You'd have to see Once Were Warriors to understand that)
Ray Park is awesome and he sounds thoroughly pleasant, he really should do more. I felt he stole the show in Phantom Menace and X Men.
